Beachside Bar Cafe is located in Goleta (a suburb of Santa Barbara). Goleta Slough, where the Santa Barbara Airport now sits, was a deepwater port used by Whalers in the 1800s. The name Goleta comes from the Spanish word for schooner.
In June of 1942, contractors began construction of the new Marine Corp Air Station at the location of the current airport. Due to the marshy terrain by the air station, barracks and others personnel building for the troops were built where the UCSB campus is located now. At the end of the war in 1946, the airport was turned over to the City of Santa Barbara. The other parts of the Marine base were turned over to the University of California in Santa Barbara and became their new campus in the Goleta Valley.Beachside Bar Cafe is in its 26th year of ownership by the current owners. Combined, the two owners have over 90 years of restaurant experience. Beachside (as it is known by the locals) sits at the base of the UCSB campus.
